DEBATE | Artificial intelligence: Challenges and opportunities for a democratic future

(Taken from original website) We can no longer ignore it: the AI era is here! The groundbreaking technology of artificial intelligence will profoundly change our society. Should we be enthusiastic or should we be more concerned? The debate is gradually becoming overheated. We look for what science says.

What can artificial intelligence do  and what not yet? Does it make us smarter or undermine our critical thinking? Does AI help us on our way to a safe society? And what if real and fake will soon become indistinguishable? Does AI undermine our democracy or does it create space for dialogue and polyphony? We resist the temptation to ask a chatbot and consult some flesh-and-blood experts.

With:

  • Prof. Dr. Ann Dooms (VUB)

  • Dr. Sennay Ghebreab (UvA)

  • Prof. Dr. Rosamunde Van Brakel (VUB)

  • Dr. Guy De Pauw (Textgain)

  • Rien Emmery (VRT NWS and Knack) and Dirk De Schutter

  • Moderated by Dr. Rob Heyman (Data & Society Knowledge Center)

Joost Vandecasteele sharpens the debate with a thought-provoking introduction and the wordsmiths of Proza-K provide a poetic commentary.

Not to be missed! The debate is free, but registration is required.
